The EU Parliament has approved the more than controversial copyright reform. This includes Article13 and #Article11 and thus makes the upload filters possible, even if not explicitly mentioned, but feared by many.
Amendments to copyright reform were not even allowed. A good summary on all points can be found here, for example.
The final result of the vote: 348 in favor, 274 against.
This will also lead to a Europe-wide ancillary copyright for press publishers. Setting links, whereby short excerpts of press articles are published on social media, for example, may in future either be subject to a warning or simply be subject to a charge.
The final step is then adoption by the Council, which is likely to be scheduled for April 9. Whether or not our Minister of Justice can tip the scales here remains to be seen.
