The Federal Ministry of Finance is currently working on a “Guide to the Taxation of ‘Social Media Actors'” so that influencers and bloggers are specifically informed about their tax obligations.

The guide is expected to be published on the Ministry’s website shortly. This is the result of an answer given by the Federal Government to a small inquiry by the FDP parliamentary group.

According to the federal government’s statements, the relevant authorities are appropriately sensitized to the issue of taxation of social media players. Since the enforcement of trade law as well as the collection of value-added tax and the enforcement of income, corporate and trade tax laws are the responsibility of the states, the federal government does not have any details on bloggers and influencers covered by tax law, the response continues.
