At the same time, uncertainty is growing: who actually owns these works? Can AI music be used commercially? What applies to platforms such as Spotify? And what contractual regulations are required when AI-based music is used in films, series, games or apps?
The legal assessment is more complex than many tool providers suggest. This is because AI music operates at the intersection of copyright law, contract law, platform rules and – increasingly – AI regulation. Anyone taking an unstructured approach here risks not only licensing problems, but also considerable economic uncertainties in terms of exploitation, monetization and re-licensing.
