Inhaltsverzeichnis

Introduction

Copyright law protects the rights of creators of original works in literature, art, music and more. In this article, we will look at the concept of a copyrighted work and examine the different types of works covered by copyright.

Definition of a copyright work

A copyright work is an original creative product of the human mind that has a certain level of creation and is expressed in a perceptible form. This means that the work cannot be just an idea or concept, but must exist in a form that can be perceived by others, such as a book, a painting, or a recording.

Work types

1. literary works

This includes written works such as novels, poems, articles, essays, and more. Computer programs also fall into this category, as they consist of code that is considered to be text.

2. musical works

Musical works include compositions with or without lyrics. This includes both the notation and the actual recording of the music.

3. artistic works

Artistic works include paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs and architecture. This category protects the visual element of the work.

4. film works

This refers to audiovisual works such as movies, television shows, and videos. It protects the combination of moving images and sound.

5. performing arts

This protects the performances of actors, musicians, dancers and other performing artists.

6. databases and collective works

Databases, catalogs and collections that are considered original because of the selection or arrangement of their contents are also protected.

7. scientific works

This includes scientific papers, research reports, and other works containing scientific knowledge.

Scope of protection

The protection afforded by copyright allows the author to control and limit the use of his work. This includes the right to make copies, to publicly perform the work, and to create derivative works.

Conclusion

Copyright plays a crucial role in protecting the rights of creators and artists. It is important to understand the different types of works covered by copyright to ensure that creators’ rights are protected.
