Federal Minister for Families Franziska Giffey (SPD) has announced a new Youth Media Protection Act for 2020 in order to bring the regulations from the time of the CD-ROM and video cassette to the new media and thus into the digital age. There will be a special focus on age labelling, which until now has been almost exclusively limited to computer games.
This will oblige apps to make easily recognizable age recommendations. to protect children and adolescents from certain content.
“We have different ages in the same game, which are rumbling around the net. However, parents must be able to rely on labelling.”
The aim is to pass the law during this legislative period and to agree on it together with the federal states. A first draft is due by the end of the year.
